TCS at school

Tata Consultancy Services has pioneered school outreach programs for nearly two decades. After supporting several schools and associations individually the company decided to create a few properties that are annual and caters to not just the children but involves the other stake holders as well, such as the teacher and the school. 

These initiatives underline the commitment of TCS towards grooming the future generations of this nation to be ready to harness the demand that India will face as we progress towards being the knowledge capital of the world. 

Rural IT Quiz
Started in 2000, exclusively for rural schools across Karnataka Tata Consultancy Services in association with the Department of Information Technology, Govt. of Karnataka, came together to plan, what would be India's first Rural IT quiz and a fantastic rural education initiative. 

This school initiative is an effort to spread awareness, and create comfort levels about IT at the grassroots level. From 32,000 participants in the year of introduction the quiz has been growing in popularity every year and reached over 1.2 million children in 2007.

TCS IT Wiz is India's biggest IT quiz for schools, started in 1999, celebrates its 10th anniversary in 2008. The quiz has become a premier quiz property in India for school children. The TCS IT Quiz was launched in Bangalore in 1999 and today reaches 12 Indian cities and over a 1000 schools across the country.

TCS IT Wiz, India's biggest IT quiz for schools, started in 1999, celebrated its 10th anniversary in 2008. The quiz, in the last decade, has become a benchmark in the inter-school quizzing circuit for the level of research, the intensity with which teams compete and the sheer numbers that it draws.

The quiz is currently held in several cities across India. This year the quiz will be conducted in 12 cities - Ahmedabad, Bangalore, Bhubaneswar, Chennai, Coimbatore, Delhi, Hyderabad, Kolkata, Kochi, Lucknow, Pune and Mumbai.

The Journey so far
The TCS IT Quiz was launched in Bangalore in August 1999 and was eventually extended to other cities in the South in 2000. The Quiz rebranded as "TCS IT Wiz" was launched in six cities in 2005.

The year 2006 witnessed an eight city event. Due to overwhelming response from other cities the quiz was extended to 11 cities in 2007. Over the years, we have witnessed high standards of quizzing, intense competition and edge-of-the-seat excitement during the event.

The quiz has earned an entry in the LIMCA book of records as the nation's first IT quiz.

Objective 
The Quiz strives to enhance IT awareness among students, keeping them abreast of the latest developments in the world of Information Technology, as IT has become an integral part of our lives today and has today put India on the global map.

2007 - 11 cities (Ahmedabad, Bangalore, Bhubaneshwar, Chennai, Delhi, Hyderabad, Kochi, Kolkata, Mumbai, Pune, and Lucknow)

2008 - 12 cities (Ahmedabad, Bangalore, Bhubaneshwar, Chennai, Delhi, Hyderabad, Kochi, Kolkata, Mumbai, Pune, Lucknow and Coimbatore)

The TCS IT WIZ Quiz, Pune 2010

Hi, 
    This is Alina here. I will be telling you something bout the TCS IT WIZ quiz held at pune.
The quiz was held at the Nehru Memorial Hall, Pune on the 31st of August (Tuesday) 2010.
Students from class 8th to 12th participated.


The quiz mainly focuses on application of Information Technology across various sectors and aspects such as: 

  • World of Internet and unique web sites, IT buzzwords and acronyms.
  • Personalia - International, national and Communication companies. (Example: Microsoft, TCS, IBM, Dell, Lenovo, HP, Google, Amazon etc)
  • Software products, companies and brands. History of IT and also the humorous side of IT.
  • Areas where IT has made an impact - education, entertainment, books, multimedia, music, movies, internet, banking, advertising, sports, gaming, social networking, cell phones, etc.
  • An exclusive round on TCS(refer www.tcsitwiz.com & www.tcs.com)

Participants answered the preliminary written round on the pre-printed answer sheets supplied by TCS.

Top 6 teams qualified for the Regional finals based on their performance in the written preliminary round. After the corrections, prior to the Finals, the quizmaster will gave the answers for the prelims and announced the 6 top team names and invited them on stage to participate in the Regional finals.

There were five rounds in the regional finals round. They were as follows:-
  1. Autonomic computing
  2. Cloud computing
  3. @tcs
  4. Parallel computing
  5. Grid computing

The quiz master for the quiz was Pickbrain. He heads Greycaps India Pvt Ltd; India's second largest quiz company, headquartered in Bangalore. Known for his distinctive style of quizzing, Pickbrain's sense of humour and approachable nature has earned him several accolades. He holds seven Limca records for quizzing achievements and has hosted more than 950 shows across 50 destinations of India. He has also hosted quiz shows in USA, Srilanka, Singapore and the Middle East Region. He was a great quizmaster!!

Six teams qualifed for the regional finals. 
The finalists were
  • Vikhe Patil - Ved Ranade and Debopriyo Moulik
  • DAV Aundh - Abhishek Pant and Ksthij Jayakrishnan
  • KV (AFS) - Prashanth Kumar Singh and Jyothi Sorout
  • Bishops Co Ed - Animesh Swain and Abhishek Sureshan
  • MMCS - Priyam Patki and Tejas Deshpande
  • Army Public School - Rishiraj and Gyanendra Mishra

The winners for the quiz were Priyam Patki and Tejas Deshpande from MMCS.
The Runner ups were Rishiraj and Gyanendra Mishra from the Army Public School.
